From 1990 to 2000, the city of Madison grew 9 percent.  Our population was 191,262 in the 1990 Census, growing to 208,054 ten years later.  The population of the county’s outlying towns, villages and cities jumped 24 percent, from 175,823 to 218,472. 

Dane County grew from 367,085 residents in 1990, to 426,526 in 2000.  The highest total population increase among Wisconsin’s 72 counties.
